Head Posture

Did you know that for every INCH of forwarding head posture, it can increase the weight of the head on the spine by an additional TEN POUNDS?! That’s a significant amount of unnecessary stress on your spine and postural muscles.

Normally we don’t consciously correct our posture. Instead, certain muscles correct it for us without us even having to think about it. These muscles include your hamstrings, large back muscles, and your abdominal muscles. When these muscles are consistently correcting our posture certain pains and discomfort will arise such as low back pain. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
If we consciously make an effort, correcting our posture on our own can be easy! Good posture helps us:
?keep bones and joints in correct alignment so that our muscles are used correctly, decreasing the abnormal wearing of joint surfaces
?reduce the stress on the ligaments holding the spinal joints together minimizing the likelihood of injury
?allows muscles to work more efficiently, allowing the body to expend less energy and improve muscular endurance
? prevent muscle strain, overuse injuries, and even back and muscular pain.

Make today the day you’re going to begin consciously correcting your posture! Improving flexibility, mobility, and strength will help you achieve good posture much easier. Here are some tips:
1️⃣STAND TALL – shoulders back and down
2️⃣ NEUTRAL POSITION – maintain the natural curvatures of your spine
3️⃣ CORE – brace your abdomen
4️⃣ KNEES – keep knees slightly bent
5️⃣ QUALITY SHOES – if you are standing for prolonged periods of time, don’t cheap out on shoes! Investing in a supportive shoe or orthotic can help. (Ask is about orthotics!)
