Day 12:
Water – 2 liters a day, please! Especially if you are breastfeeding. I found placing water bottles near all the places I sit in my house helped me to remember. One in the TV room, one beside my bed, one beside the rocking chair, one near where I work out. 2/3 of your body is composed of water. The majority of that water – about 66- 70% is with your cells and lymph system. The lymph system is a critical part of the immune system, vital for protecting us from illness and damaging inflammation. Essentially, the lymphatic system is the body’s inner “drainage system,” a network of blood vessels and lymph nodes that carry fluids from tissues around the body into the blood and vice versa.
Dehydration lowers your blood volume, so your heart must work harder to pump the reduced amount of blood and get enough oxygen to your cells, which makes everyday activities like walking upstairs–as well as exercise–more difficult. Our blood vessels and lymphatic vessels seep fluid into and out of surrounding tissue so the fluid can be drained. Extra fluid is eliminated from the body, which stops tissue from swelling or puffing up — however, when we are sick or injured, fluids build up in the damaged area, which is why throbbing and pain occur.
