Difficulties with SI joint pain? Chances are the associated symptoms with SI joint pain can be exacerbated during your pregnancy. So, what can you do to prevent these symptoms during pregnancy and beyond?

The SI joint refers to the sacroiliac joint where your sacrum inserts into your hip bones (ilium – part of the pelvis). The SI joints are very strong joints that are surrounded with thick ligaments and tissues constantly supporting it. When these ligaments and tissues become very tight, it can result in uneven movement of the pelvis causing you pain and discomfort.

1️⃣STAY ACTIVE. Walking or staying active during pregnancy can provide you with many benefits. However, some momma’s have complained that walking may aggravate the low back and SI joints. We suggest investing in a customized strength training program that will still provide benefits to your body and mind, as well as be less irritating on your SI joints.
2️⃣GOOD POSTURE. Naturally, with pregnancy, our bodies will change to support the little one trying to grow. It is in our best interest to maintain good posture by keeping our rib cage over our hip bones to prevent forward dislocation of the upper torso and excessive rounding of the lower back. Talk to us about strengthening exercises that are safe and easy to do on a daily basis to help with good posture!
3️⃣GET ADJUSTED. Dr. Jacquelyn Nicholls is certified in using the Webster technique on pregnant women. She is able to provide safe and effective and drug-free care for pregnant moms. A Webster Certified Chiropractor is someone who has been specifically trained to assess and adjust the spine and pelvis of pregnant women. Sometimes you just need a little help, and what better way to do it than choosing a drug-free alternative?
